Welcome to the website for St. Saviour’s Church, the parish church for much of Westgate-on-Sea, a part, but not all of the CT8 post-code. We form part of the Diocese of Canterbury within the Church of England. This church was built in 1884 and opened on 23rd July for the new community building up round the seaside and the railway station. The 2001 census recorded 6594 people living in this parish.
We aim to offer worship for all ages – see our list of services – and we also hold community events at intervals throughout the year. Special services are held at Christmas and Easter, at Harvest and Remembrance.
Please note our growing and welcoming family service for all ages on the first Sunday of the month at 10.30 am. There is always a theme for this service and relevant activities for the children. The service lasts about 45 minutes.
We have close links with St. Saviour’s Church of England School and the children come into church at the end of each term for their end of term and end of year events, to which parents are also invited. The parish priest is one of two foundation governors from the church and is a regular visitor to the school. We also have some links with other schools in the parish.
We welcome collaboration with the community in Westgate and we are proud to host Westgate Heritage Centre, which is open twice a week in the summer months and once a month in the winter, including a monthly talk on the history of the area. Westgate Art and Craft Group holds its annual exhibition of local art and craft for a fortnight during August.
We hope you would like to come to this Grade ll listed church, which is a very beautiful and magnificent building. You can be sure of a friendly welcome and light refreshments are offered at most services and events. We would love to see you.
We are delighted to welcome people who live in or have particular links to this parish to hold their important family events here. For information about arranging a baptism or christening, a wedding or a funeral, please contact the Parish Priest. Please note that the Parish Priest is also able to conduct funeral services for people from Westgate at the local crematorium or cemetery.
